Description

Bem-vindo a Lisboa! Let's soak up Lisbon's lifestyle and its most important historical events on this guided tour through its streets. For approximately two hours, we will discover the past and present of the Portuguese capital, so come and join us! To think of Lisbon is to see the yellow colour of its most famous square, to hear Fado and to think of cod. But enough of thinking about it, it's time to experience the city! This guided tour of Lisbon starts at Rossío Square. We will learn about its importance and its most curious anecdotes and we will take the opportunity to appreciate the façade of the Rossío train station and its hectic atmosphere. Nearby is the Elevador de Santa Justa, a century-old lift, inaugurated in 1902, which connects the lower streets of the Baixa district with the upper streets of Chiado. Its purpose is to help Lisboners climb the steep, cobbled streets of the city. Once we have seen this area, we will continue walking until we come across the Rua Augusta Arch, which is the gateway from the sea to Lisbon, crossing the busiest pedestrian street in the city. The arch is an icon symbolising Lisbon's strength in recovering from the 1755 earthquake. Opposite the arch is the Praça do Comércio, to which we will go next. It is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, with the Tagus estuary right next to it. It was once the place that welcomed travellers by boat, and saw the arrival of ordinary citizens as well as Kings and Heads of State. It was the site of the Royal Palace, destroyed during the earthquake, whose reconstruction was carried out by the Marquis of Pombal. It is time to change tack and enter Lisbon's bohemian and artistic district, Chiado. Highlights include Rua Garrett Avenue, the Bertrand bookshop, Praça Luís de Camoes - a meeting place for Lisboners - and the 18th-century rococo Largo de Sao Carlos, which we will visit. If Lisbon is your next destination, don't hesitate to get to know it with our expert guides, who will make you see it, feel it and enjoy it to the fullest.
