Description

Join us on an adventure through the beautiful landscape of Sintra. Put on your walking shoes and brace yourself for an incredible experience. We explore the trails of Sintra along all the highlights and other hidden gems of this fairytale area. Watch out! It is not an easy hike. The first 3 km are all up and the way back is all down. Good fitness is needed for the way up, strong legs and knees for the way down. Make this already magical place come alive with the historical stories, myths and legends that blend perfectly into the Sintra we see today. This guided tour is all in Dutch. The starting point of this tour is Sintra train station. The guide Gino is already waiting for you here and there is still the option to stock up on food and drinks for the tour. We start early to be ahead of the crowd and this also gives us the opportunity to see the early morning mists which adds up to Sintra's mystique before it quickly evaporates. Although it is a relatively short hike of 6.5 km, there is a lot to see. We climb to a viewpoint with a view of Lisbon and Cascais and all the way from Cabo Espichel in the south to Ericeira in the north. Our walk takes us past the highlights of Sintra, such as the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira. No, we will not go inside, but we will get excellent views of all these points in combination with a fantastic hike through the beautiful nature of Sintra. Let's face it, doesn't this sound better than overcrowded buses and long queues when you want to enter Pena? The hike starts with a long (and, in some parts, steep) climb. It's not a race, we're here to enjoy ourselves, so we take our time and there are plenty of points to catch our breath, take a photo or have something to eat/drink. The way back is a bit kinder to the lungs, because here we go down. Back in Sintra there is the option to have a delicious meal at a typical Portuguese restaurant or enjoy Sintra's own pastries in one of the most famous bakeries of Portugal.

Important Information

  • Sintra has a colder climate than Lisbon and Cascais. It can be windy at the top of the mountain, so it can be useful to take this into account by bringing an extra layer of clothing. Bring something to eat and drink or buy it at the meeting point. On the way there is no place to buy anything.
