Description

Looking for a day out of Lisbon? Take this half-day private guided eco-tour that takes you to discover the home of the Knights Templar in Portugal, their incredible heritage and impressive legacy. Totally hassle-free. Take advantage of our included pick-up and drop-off service and depart from anywhere in the Greater Lisbon area. Travel in private, own your tour, go at your own pace and make the most of your day. You'll cross heritage lands, see iconic monuments from Portuguese history, come into contact with local ways of life and learn curious tales. We start our journey towards Tomar, the greatest home of Templars in Portugal. On arrival will visit the ruins of the Castle of Tomar and learn about the Knights Templar in Portugal, their importance in the shaping of the kingdom, in promoting the Maritime Discoveries and in the architecture of the golden age of the kingdom of Portugal. Then we will guide you on Tomar's jewel, namely the Convent of Christ. As well as other beauties, you'll have the chance to see the Charola, which is one of the best of the rare examples of a circular church in the world, and to see the Janela do Capítulo window, which in the originality of its decorative work depicts in art the greatness of the kingdom of Portugal at the time of the Discoveries. As was the criterion for being classified as a World Heritage Site, the site had to be representative of a masterpiece of humanity's creative genius. As this is a half-day tour, after visiting the Convent, it's time to head back to Lisbon. But if we still have time and you feel like it, we can take a stroll and wind through some of the streets of Tomar's Historic Center to discover more historical and Templar references, learn how the local community still vibrates with Templar culture and feel the pleasantness of the river and the picturesque corners of the town. If you want we can even have lunch on site before returning to Lisbon. The choice is yours. We are here for you.
