We came here for the first time with our family, and we had a wonderful experience. The waiters were kind and friendly, and the chefs clearly prepared the food with passion and care. We genuinely enjoyed every dish and had a great time. We highly recommend this place!
We stopped by for a late-night dinner and were lucky enough to get one of the most unique table with one and only cozy couch seat. The food stood out from the other Portuguese restaurants we’ve tried during our trip through Portugal (and we’d been in for 19 days already). The absolute star of the meal was the chicken gizzards. Seriously, don’t skip them! They reminded me of Chinese red-braised beef tendon: rich, tender, and with none of the metallic or gamey flavor that some people associate with organ meats. The lamb was perfectly tender, and the traditional cornbread side dish with cabbage and beans was interesting and worth trying, though a little dry for my taste. The octopus was reliably good, and the cocktail was crisp, refreshing, and well balanced. The decor deserves a special highlight. The space felt warm, cozy, and full of character, with vintage suitcases, books, and hats decorating the walls. Even the restroom had shoe-shaped door handles with a string. The manager, Joano, was incredibly friendly. He recognized us from when we had walked by earlier in the day, which made us feel especially welcome. They offered customers complimentary shots of white Port before we left. A memorable dinner and one of our favorite dining experiences in Portugal for sure.
We both absolutely LOVED our meal here. It's off a main Street, but seems intimate the moment you step inside. The customer service was top notch with our waiter cracking jokes that were actually funny, and the front of house letting us "behind the velvet rope" to get inside. You could see the teamwork amongst the staff which contributed to the comfortable atmosphere. The decor of this place... Kudos to whomever it was who came up with it, I loved it all. It is pure whimsy, from the "lock and key" men's and women's bathrooms, to the wall of books "flying" away. It really felt like I could spend hours here munching away on delicious food in this whimsical and cozy setting. Then there was the food. Not being a seafood person, I would have to say this restaurant had some of the best food I'd had on our trip. My SO had the cod, and I had the pica pau with the baked chorizo and cheese bread. At the end of our delicious meal, we were even treated to a complimentary shot to wind out the evening. When we come back to Lisbon, this will 100% be my first stop for dinner!
We got there around 4 pm and had a table immediately. We were lucky to sit by the window from which we watched historic #12 & #28 trams passing by. The stewed gizzards were very tender and saucy. The garlic shrimp was cooked at right amount of time, and it's so yummy to dip the paired bread into its sauce. The sausage in the bread was interesting. The white seafood rice was great and quite different from others, the fish in it was cooked well. The wood-fired octopus was good with the stuffing. The cocktail caipirão was tasty and soothing in a hot day. After the meal, we were offered free Porto wine for helping digestion. The staff are very friendly, humourous, and attentive. The restaurant has a cozy and comfortable ambient. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Altar was an absolute standout. The food was delicious, the service was exceptional, and the ambience struck that perfect balance - classy with just the right amount of edge and personality. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine (even if I momentarily believed our server when he joked it cost €600 😆😆😆). Speaking of service, the staff was warm, attentive, and added to the overall experience without ever feeling overbearing. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by the options. The vegetable soup and grilled pepper with tofu and cheese were both thoughtful and genuinely flavorful - not an afterthought. My husband had the duck and loved it! This is one of those places that gets it right across the board. Absolutely worth a visit!!!
