Description

Begin your journey in the heart of Lisbon and discover how the city has changed through centuries of history. Ride first to the ruins of the Carmo Convent, one of the most striking reminders of the devastating 1755 earthquake. Learn how this event transformed Lisbon and influenced the city that visitors see today. Continue through the lively Chiado area and Praça Luís de Camões before heading downhill toward the colorful Pink Street and the Tagus River. Reach Praça do Comércio, Lisbon's monumental riverside square and one of the key symbols of the city's reconstruction after the earthquake. Cycle along the waterfront for views toward Alfama, Lisbon's oldest and most atmospheric district, before reaching the Sé de Lisboa, the city's historic cathedral. From here, continue through the center to Rossio Square and Praça dos Restauradores, where your guide shares stories of Lisbon's past and its development into the Portuguese capital of today. The route then opens into a different side of Lisbon. Ride toward Marquês de Pombal, named after the statesman closely associated with rebuilding the city after 1755, and continue to Parque Eduardo VII for a broad panoramic view over central Lisbon and toward the Tagus River. On the return ride, discover the elegant Príncipe Real neighborhood and its historic garden. Stop at the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, one of the route's most impressive viewpoints, overlooking central Lisbon and São Jorge Castle. Before returning to the starting point, pass the historic Igreja de São Roque and explore more of the streets and local stories that connect Lisbon's old quarters with its modern city life.
