Depart Lisbon or Cascais in the morning or afternoon and travel comfortably through the countryside to Fátima, where three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917. Your guided visit begins at the extensive Sanctuary of Fátima, a focal point for devotion and prayer worldwide.
Visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, the exact site of the visions. Your guide will explain the messages received by the children, their significance, and subsequent events. Continue to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, which houses the tombs of Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta. The large open square around the sanctuary offers space for quiet reflection or candle lighting.
Next, see the modern Basilica of the Holy Trinity, completed in 2007, with its minimalist circular design representing the sanctuary’s evolving role. Learn how the sanctuary accommodates millions of pilgrims annually.
Afterwards, visit the nearby village of Aljustrel, where the three shepherd children lived. Explore their preserved homes and understand their simple rural lifestyle before the apparitions.
