Description
This tour begins at Almourol Castle, located on a small island in the middle of the Tagus River. A boat crossing provides unique access to one of Portugal’s most iconic castles, symbolizing the strength and mystery of the Knights Templar.
Next, the tour continues to Tomar, a city closely linked to the Templars. Visits include the Pegões Aqueduct, an impressive engineering feat; the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, historically the Templars’ headquarters; and the old town with Praça da República, where you have free time for lunch. Your guide can recommend a medieval-themed tavern with period-inspired dishes (lunch not included).
In the afternoon, visit the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on the site of the former Templar headquarters. Its architecture and symbols reveal the history and significance of the Order of Christ.
The tour concludes with a return to Lisbon around 6:00 PM.
