Description
Discover the tradition of Portuguese tile-making through a creative experience where you will work directly with authentic fragments of historic tiles.
The activity begins with a brief introduction to the history of the Portuguese tile and the materials you will have at your disposal. The fragments used date from the 18th to the 21st centuries and belong to tiles that, at some point in their history, broke and reached us in a fragmented state. In this workshop, we seek to preserve and reinterpret this material, giving it a new purpose through a conscious approach to reuse and sustainability.
Each participant will be able to freely choose from the available fragments and create their own composition within a frame. You will also have tools at your disposal to allow you to explore different shapes, colors, patterns, and combinations from different eras.
Using adhesive mortar, you will build your final composition, always with the assistance of our guide. There is no mandatory design to reproduce: the aim is to encourage free and individual creation, respecting the history and characteristics of the original material.
At the end of the activity, the composition will be carefully protected with bubble wrap and will be ready for you to take with you.
Each participant will also receive a certificate of authenticity for the historical fragments used in their composition, including information about their period, history, and place in the tradition of Portuguese tilework.
