Description

Go beyond pastel de nata and discover the savoury food Portuguese people actually enjoy in local taverns, festivals and family gatherings. In this hands-on class, you’ll prepare three traditional favourites before sitting down with your group to enjoy a full meal accompanied by Portuguese wine and ginja. Over the course of two hours, join expert chefs to explore the secrets behind some of Portugal’s beloved light meal dishes. Learn how to prepare classic like the famous Bifana (a mouthwatering pork sandwich), the traditional and popular Caldo verde (collard greens soup), and the original Peixinhos da horta, the dish that inspired the world-famous tempura. Each dish tells a story of local and global tradition and is designed to be simple enough to recreate in your own kitchen. Kick things off with a short introduction to the history and culture of these dishes. Hear fascinating stories of the origins of these iconic dishes and their role in Portuguese daily life. Roll up your sleeves and get cooking. Work side by side with fellow participants, guided by the chef, to create a selection of authentic street food dishes. No prior cooking experience is needed—just a love for good food and a sense of adventure. Once the cooking is done, gather around the table to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Savor your delicious creations, share stories with new friends, and soak up the lively atmosphere. To complete the experience, serve a glass of wine, and in the end, taste some Ginja, a traditional Portuguese cherry liqueur. Vegetarian alternatives are available with advance notice.
