My daughter and I had an amazing time! As life-long vegetarians, this was a very special experience. The service was spectacular - we fell in love with our 2 sommeliers and our lovely server. The food was spectacular, the wine pairings sublime. Worth the time (3 hour dinner) and money, no question!

Our first experience dining at a Michelin star restaurant and we were happy to go somewhere really unique like this all vegetarian place in Lisbon. 12 courses was really 13. Enjoyed every single one of them and several of them were mind blowing. Extremely creative and delicious. Service was fantastic explaining each dish. We also did their standard wine pairing, which is all Portuguese wine. Many of them were rare hard to find and all 8 were excellent wines. While pricey at $155pp, and $90 for wine, it is certainly an experience to remember.

Encanto is an incredible premium fine dining experience. I would not have expected anything less, and they ensured they met all expectations. The service was impeccable, with friendliest of staff that truly enjoys in engaging with their clientele. Incredible cocktails, wine and food! Food, OMG! Right from the presentation to the taste to the after effect, we were mesmerised with how amazing it all went. I can't wait to pop in again!

Celebrating my birthday at Encanto in Lisbon felt less like dinner and more like stepping into a carefully orchestrated experience where vegetables somehow outperformed… everything else I’ve ever eaten. Which, frankly, is a little offensive to every steakhouse that’s ever tried. Encanto, led by renowned Portuguese chef José Avillez, is a Michelin-starred restaurant that offers a fully vegetarian tasting menu built around seasonal Portuguese ingredients. The concept is simple on paper but ridiculously hard to execute: take vegetables, elevate them, and make people forget meat exists. Somehow, they actually pull it off. The evening started with a warm, intimate atmosphere that felt refined without being stiff. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and paced like they actually care about your experience instead of trying to flip tables. You can tell this is a place where every detail is intentional, from presentation to storytelling. The menu itself is a multi-course tasting experience (around 12 moments), each dish highlighting local, seasonal ingredients sourced from Portuguese farmers. What stood out most was how each course played with texture, temperature, and flavor in a way that kept surprising us. One dish would lean bright and acidic, the next earthy and rich, followed by something completely unexpected. My father-in-law, who is very much not someone you’d associate with vegetarian food, kept saying how incredibly flavorful everything was. At one point he mentioned that some of the dishes were comparable, if not better, than meat-based meals he’s had. Watching that realization happen in real time was honestly one of the highlights of the night. What makes Encanto special is how they use technique to extract maximum flavor from ingredients most people overlook. Fermentation, drying, and creative combinations turn simple vegetables into something complex and deeply satisfying. It’s not just “good for vegetarian food.” It’s just… great food. The progression of the meal feels like a journey rather than a series of dishes. Each course builds on the last, and by the end, you realize you’re completely full without ever feeling heavy. Which is a strange but welcome experience after most fine dining meals. The drink pairings (whether wine or non-alcoholic options like house-made kombuchas and infusions) are also thoughtfully curated and elevate the experience even further. Overall, Encanto isn’t just a restaurant you go to for a meal. It’s a place that completely shifts your perception of what vegetarian cuisine can be. For a birthday celebration, it couldn’t have been a more memorable choice. If you’re expecting a typical fine dining experience, you’ll get that. If you’re expecting vegetables to taste this good, you won’t.

Highly recommend this place to veggies and non-veggies alike! Each dish is so creative and tasty, with a different wow-effect in each course, the service super friendly and the atmosphere warm and cozy. We especially loved the savoury dishes. They have quite an intense taste, but definitely not too salty or acid as some reviews here say (at least for us, we both like rather intense flavours). You definitely need instructions on how to eat each dish to make most of its flavours and the waiters explained everything well. Also the sommelier gave very good advice, a little map of Portugal’s wine regions included, which we could take home and is a nice souvenir. The 12 courses were well-timed, dinner didn’t feel rushed but it also didn’t last forever, they found the silver lining. Will definitely come back if/when returning to Lisbon.
