Description

Come and experience the Portuguese countryside with a Local Guide by visiting the unique catholic Shrine of Fátima, the breathtaking gothic Monastery of Batalha, the gorgeous fishing Town of Nazaré and the picturesque medieval Town of Óbidos. We start the day by visiting one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the Catholic Church, the Sanctuary of Fátima, where you will have the opportunity to attend mass, or walk the path of the pilgrims through the Shrine. We continue our tour to the famous Monastery of Batalha. This XIV century monastery, built to fulfill a promise made by the King of Portugal John I, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s one of most significant monuments in the country, showing how the architectural styles developed from the Gothic to the Renaissance period in Portugal. We then head West until we reach the coastline to visit the fishing Town of Nazaré, famous for its distinctive traditions and typical clothing. This coastal town that has more recently become a preferred destination for surfers from all over the world looking for the highest waves ever surfed, is also the place where we will stop for lunch and where you will be able to try the local gastronomy. After lunch we drive to Óbidos, a unique and picturesque fortified town that keeps to this day all of its medieval architecture style and walls. In this town-sized time capsule you will meander through the old winding streets, enjoying the traditional craftsmanship as well as the traditional drink of Óbidos, the “Ginjinha”.
