Description
Lisbon's historic district Belém is located 6 kilometers away from the rest of the historic center (downtown). The district is located directly on the Tejo River. Here, the Portuguese era of discovery can be felt everywhere. We explore the most beautiful monuments together and take in the flair of the river promenade, where the great explorers started their expeditions in the 16th century. The meeting point is not far from the famous “Pasteis de Belém”, which you can try without waiting in line thanks to your guide. The delicious pastries have been baked here for almost two centuries, using a secret recipe. Afterwards we visit the highlight of Belém - the impressive Jerónimos Monastery ('Mosteiro dos Jerónimos'). We admire the cloister and church from the inside and outside. We take a close look at Portugal's former wealth and the artistry of the architecture of the time. Then we make our way to the Tagus River, where we marvel at the Monument of the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) and imagine ourselves in the 16th century, when great sailors like Vasco da Gama set sail here. We end at the historic Torre de Belém (tower), one of the most beautiful Manueline buildings, which we admire from the outside. We say goodbye to each other at the Torre de Belém. It's up to you whether you want to stay longer in Belém on your own or take tram 15 back to the historic center. You will of course get tips from your tour guide. The Belém tour in German includes entry to the monastery and a Pastel de Belém. Important change for 2025 (2nd semestre): As long as the Torre de Belém is under restauration work, the tour won't stop there but on top of the observation deck of the MAAT museum.Includes
