The food was really good and the vibes were great. James Carvalho took care of us the whole time, and his service was excellent. He was really friendly, fast, and made sure everything was perfect. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food, and the whole experience was worth it. The place is very popular, so you’ll probably have to wait in line for around 8 minutes, but it’s definitely worth it. Would definitely come back.
This was definitely my favorite restaurant in Lisbon. The chicken was so good that I cannot describe it. The Piri piri sauce is really good and a little spicy but not that much. We also order sangria and it was perfect! So perfect that I didn’t get the chance to take a picture before we finished it. If you are in the area, definitely I would go. We didn’t need reservation but depending on the time you might need to wait in line for a bit
Good food! Saw it hyped on TikTok and would say it’s not a bad place to try. Waited 15 minutes in a long line but that was mostly due to a huge group in front of me — I was solo, so that likely made it quicker. I sat upstairs, and had a great table next to the window. The chicken is good, albeit the skin was inedibly salty and some parts were dry. Spinach is delicious and interesting, skip the fries! Not the best in the world, but a good meal! Of note, the service was slow and awkward. I was not asked before being given bread and then was charged for it (€1 so that’s OK but annoying). At the end of the meal, the waiter pressured me into tipping him. And when I got my receipt, I realize he didn’t give me a choice to reject the conversion rate so I ended up paying more than expected. If you visit: tip if you’d like but it’s okay to say no, and request/deny conversion WHEN you tap your card. Overall, it’s a solid option but I could see somewhere else being better.
Bonjardim 1950 is a must-visit place in Lisbon and one of those restaurants that reminds you why some places stay popular for decades. The food is outstanding, but the real star is the famous piri-piri chicken. Tender, juicy, perfectly grilled, and packed with flavour. Easily one of the best chicken dishes I’ve had anywhere in the world. Simple food executed to perfection. The hospitality is equally impressive. The staff are warm, attentive, and make you feel genuinely welcome. Combined with the quick service and lively atmosphere, the entire experience becomes memorable. If you’re visiting Lisbon, don’t miss this place. Some meals are good. Some become memories. This was definitely one of them.
went here twice in the same week, completely different experiences. when i went on a wednesday, around 6:30 pm, i was seated immediately when i walked in. food came fast and fresh. on sunday, around 6:30 pm, they had us line up outside for over 30 mins (telling us it would only take 10 minutes). the entire restaurant was empty, upstairs and downstairs. after the wait they sat the entire line at the same time (so what was the point of a line??) additionally, we noticed the menu prices were different from the last time i was here, and we asked about it and the waiter said the 5€ upcharge difference on the menu was if you sat outside. which…doesnt make sense because it’s cold and less attended to outside. because of the wait, we knew what we were going to order right when we sat, so i ordered immediately after sitting, and i know we were the first table in the entire dining room upstairs to order (because it was empty previously). however we received our chicken last, we watched tables order after us, the same chicken, but still receive it before us. after struggling to even get the waiters attention for the check, he proceeded to request multiple times for a tip and point out that we didn’t add one.
