Description

The bifana is one of the most popular symbols of Lisbon cuisine: a hot sandwich of marinated pork, crispy bread, rich sauce, and street food flavors. This exclusive experience takes you where the bifana really shines: in the tascas that serve the locals, especially in the evening. We'll start in the Mouraria neighborhood, the birthplace of popular fado and street food. Here, we'll introduce you to the ingredients, cuts, marinades, and regional differences of the bifana. Then we'll head into three authentic places: Classic bifana with sauce and a small beer (imperial) Grilled bifana, drier and slightly spicy Bifana 'molhada', where the bread slowly absorbs the sauce At the heart of the tour, you'll experience our Bifana Lab: a small sensory workshop where you can assemble your own bifana by choosing the type of bread, the intensity of the sauce, and traditional condiments such as Lisbon mustard and piri-piri. Just real life.

Your local foodie guide 3 bifanas (tasting portions, different styles) Bifana Lab: bread + sauces + condiments tasting 2 drinks (beer, wine, or a soft drink) Water Digital guide 'Anatomy of the Bifana' Small 'Bifana Maker' certificate at the end

Important Information

  • This tour is on foot in pedestrian areas and alleys; we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. The tour takes place in the evening and may include short outdoor stops: bring a light or windproof jacket depending on the season. The places we'll visit are traditional tascas: simple, authentic, and frequented by locals, not tourist restaurants. The tasting includes pork. The tour isn't suitable for vegetarians, vegans, or those who don't eat pork. Foods may contain gluten, lactose, mustard, and traces of allergens. If you have any allergies, please let us know in advance: we'll do our best, but alternatives aren't always available. Two drinks are included (beer/wine/soft drink). Alcohol consumption is reserved for adults according to Portuguese law. Even if the weather's bad, the tour will still go ahead, with a modified route. The tour is held in micro-groups (max 6) to ensure access and quality of the experience.
