Description

One of the most beautiful capitals in Europe, Lisbon is awash with old, pastel painted houses and brilliant azulejos tiles. During this full-day small group tour, with a maximum 8 participants, you will see up to 25 different attractions. Start with a hotel pickup at 8:30am and visit the Belém district to taste the world-famous Pastel de Belém, also known as Pastel de Nata. After this sweet treat, continue to the Manueline Jeronimos Monastery. One of the most prominent buildings of the city, the monastery bears testament to Portugal’s great days of discovery and exploration, and was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1983. Visit the tomb of the Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama and the poet Luis de Camões. Continue to Belém Tower and Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries). Belém Tower was strategically built on the north bank of the Tagus River between 1514 and 1520, in order to protect Lisbon from attack. One of the jewels of architecture from the reign of King Manuel I, it was also inscribed by UNESCO in 1983. The Monument of Discoveries was originally erected in 1941 for the Portuguese World Exhibition, and celebrates the main players from Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and the days of world exploration. Cross the extensive 25 de Abril Bridge to reach the Statue of Christ, one of the symbols of Lisbon. Constructed in 1934, it was inspired by a visit the Cardinal Cerejeira, Patriarch of Lisbon, made to the Christ Of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Admire Lisbon and its rolling hills from the viewpoints of St. Lucia, and Senhora do Monte. Continue to Eduardo VII Park, the largest park in central Lisbon. It was baptized in 1903 in honor of Great Britain’s King Edward VII, who had visited Lisbon to reaffirm the bonds of friendship between the 2 countries. Your city tour of Lisbon complete, your driver will drop you off in Central Lisbon so you can keep exploring the City if you want.
