Wander Lisbon’s hills from Praça do Comércio to Alfama’s terraces, hearing tales at Rossio, Chiado, and Largo do Carmo. Snap skyline views, sample a pastel, and weave through hidden lanes.

Highlights

  • Panoramas from riverfront through Baixa, Chiado, and Alfama.
  • Photo-ready arches, lifts, plazas, and tiled miradouros.
  • Flexible pace with time for coffee or a pastel.

Description

From the river breeze on Praça do Comércio, the walk flows up Rua Augusta beneath its triumphal arch into Baixa’s geometric streets and black‑and‑white pavements. Fountains and swirling stone waves frame Rossio, the filigreed Santa Justa Lift peeks above rooftops, and the quiet shade of Largo do Carmo sits beside the Gothic arches of the Carmo Convent. Elegant Chiado corners lead toward the garden terrace of Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara for a sweeping skyline of castle, river, and red roofs. Then the path descends past the brooding façade of the Sé Cathedral into Alfama’s tiled corners, laundry‑strung alleys, fado echoes, and jasmine‑scented stairways, opening onto sunlit viewpoints like Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol where the Tagus gleams and tram 28 rattles by; along the way, cameras fill with color and there is time to grab a warm pastel de nata if you wish.
